Our Workcamp Trips for 2018
June 24-June 30, 2018 “Steel City Workcamp”
* Eligibility includes adults and Junior/Senior High students who will be at least 12 years old by the last day of workcamp or have completed the 6th grade.
Once, the steel mills here drew people from Kentucky, WV and other states. Many were fleeing the poverty of their hometowns and came to chase the American dream and build a better future for their children. These people worked hard, and for awhile prosperity seemed within their grasp. But in the 1970s and 80s, manufacturing declined and the mills shut down. Jobs were lost, homes suffered and hope for the future died as people came to feel that no one cared.
July 8-July 14, 2018
Owego, NY “Mountain Breeze Workcamp”
* Eligibility includes adults and Senior High students who will be at least 14 years old by the last day of workcamp or have completed the 8th grade.
In 2009, a travel magazine recognized Owego with the title “the coolest small town in America”. It’s easy to see why as you browse the unique shops and restaurants along Front and Lake Streets. On the banks of the Susquehanna River, Owego is surrounded by forested, round-top mountains. This is farm country – a welcoming place where people stop to visit with each other and fireflies dance above green fields on mild summer evenings.
